The National Heritage Board organises quarterly lunch time health talks for its staff to encourage workplace wellness and good health. By popular request from the staff, eye health was the theme for the second quarter of 2017 and, to that end, Dr Joy Chan, Medical Director and Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist from International Eye Cataract Retina Centre, was invited to speak on 6 June.
Dr Chan’s talk, titled “Focus on Your Eye Health”, touched on some common eye problems encountered by individuals from different ages. Topics such as cataract, age-related macular degeneration and pterygium were addressed. In addition, Dr Chan, a reputable oculoplastic surgeon, shared her experience on patients with dermatochalasis, ptosis, entropion and ectropion. The participants were in awe with the result of the surgeries, which can have dramatically positive effects on one’s health and self-esteem.
Dr Chan also shared some useful eye care tips on visual hygiene with the participants. The talk ended with a Question and Answer session which saw participants eagerly asking questions on their eye health concerns and problems.
