Dr Pat Lim is the Board Vice-Chairman and Medical Council Chairman of Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution (SCHMI). She is also currently the Head of TCM Ophthalmology Department at SCHMI and Head of TCM Ophthalmology Department at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital. She practises as an optometrist and TCM ophthalmologist in both SCHMI and I C U eye care unit.
Dr Lim graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma in Optometry and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Optometry and Master of Science in Clinical Optometry from Salus University, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, USA. After completing her basic and advanced training in optometry, she pursued her MD and PhD in Western integrated with Chinese Medicine in Ophthalmology in Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
Dr Lim has been actively involved in raising the awareness of TCM treatment for eye diseases. She made a break-through in 2014 when she collaborated with Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and won the first ever TCM grant awarded by the Ministry of Health to conduct a dry eye clinical study comparing TCM methods and standard western treatment. The study recruited 150 subjects and initial results suggest a positive response for the TCM treatment for dry eye.
Dr Lim has been an industrial partner with Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic optometry schools for the past 16 years and has trained and taught many optometry students.
Besides her clinical work, Dr Lim has a keen interest in teaching and research. She has given numerous CPE lectures to practising opticians and optometrists over the past 4 years and has been involved as a principal investigator or co-investigator in clinical research in Singapore and China. Dr Lim has been actively involved in eye screenings and has given many public health talks. She also volunteers her time in charitable institutions to perform eye screenings for the poor and needy. She is a firm believer that regular eye checks prevent blindness.
林博士一直积极参与提高群众对中医眼科的认识。她于2014年与新加坡眼科研究中心（Singapore Eye Research Institute SERI）合作， 探讨中西医结合治疗干眼的方案，并成功申请到了新加坡卫生部颁发的第一个中医科研基金。这项研究招募了150名参与者，初步结果发现中医治疗比常规治疗干眼有效。
2017 年10月， 林博士通过世界中医药联合学会 （World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, WFCMS）的考核， 被颁发于主任医师/教授的高级技术评定职称。
