Dr. Lavanya Raghavan completed her basic medical education from Seth G.S. Medical College, K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai and post-graduation in Ophthalmology from Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Madras Medical College, Chennai in 2002. She also holds a post graduate degree in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK. She has worked as a Clinical Research Fellow in the Department of Glaucoma at Singapore National Eye Centre and Singapore Eye Research Institute. She also has a Clinical Fellowship in Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology from Singapore National Eye Centre.
She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, given guest lectures and presented in various scientific meetings and conferences both nationally and internationally. She has conducted several glaucoma clinical trials with special focus on screening, imaging, and management of angle closure. She has also conducted large scale population based epidemiological studies to assess major causes of blindness and visual impairment in Indians and community-based screening for angle closure glaucoma. She is a reviewer for many high impact journals in Ophthalmology. She won the prestigious Asia- ARVO travel grant for her scientific paper in 2009.
She has delivered several public health lectures on common eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, myopia to promote awareness and early detection of preventable causes of blindness both in India and in Singapore.
Her key areas of interest are management of angle closure glaucoma, screening and imaging modalities in glaucoma.
She is currently working as a Consultant in the Department of Glaucoma and Cataract services at Narayana Nethralaya-4, Bangalore.
